Comic “Electric Garden”

The Comic “Electric Garden” is my contribute to a special edition of Garage Magazine issue 5 focused on environmental issues and featuring works by Egyptian and German artists. The project is supported by the Goethe-Institut Cairo, in cooperation with Mohamed and Haitham ElSaht, aka Twins Cartoon, co-founders of the Kawkab Elrasameen Initiative. The Initiative publishes, among other activities, a magazine called “Garage Comics Magazine”

The comic follows a researcher on Beta E in the year 2421. She is a scientist working on creating insectoids, i.e. insect-like nanorobots, because all insects on Earth became extinct centuries ago. Her latest creation leads her to an old library, where she discovers a medieval book about the metamorphosis of insects. She then goes in search of the last signs of life of the insects and travels to the island from which the insects described in the book come. There she experiences a magical transformation herself. The comic is inspired by Maria Sybilla Merian, an artist and scientist from the 17th century who researched and drew many insects on her travels around the world.
